Ivana Švestková begun studying harp at the Janáček Conservatory Ostrava in 1998, in the class of Prof. Ada Balová and graduated in 2004. She then continued her studies at the Prague Conservatory in the class of Doc. Mgr. Jana Boušková, who was also her teacher during studies at the Academy of Music in Prague where she graduated in 2011. In 2004, she was awarded by Magdaléna Jakubská Scholarship and took part in Summer Master Courses at the Eastman School of Music at the American University in Rochester, led by Prof. Kathleen Bride.
From 2012 to 2015 she taught at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava and since September 2016 she has been teaching at the Brno Conservatory. Since August 2008, she has been the principal harpist of the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2006, she has also regularly collaborated with the Prague Philharmonia. From 2011 to 2015, she cooperated with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra in Riga and between 2013 and 2017 she also worked with Deutche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern. She is a member of the Ostravská banda – an international orchestra specializing in contemporary music. She also performs with Baborak Ensemble in a project called Orquestrina. She is a member of the Czech Sinfonietta, led by horn player and conductor Radek Baborák. In 2017 and 2018 she occasionally cooperated with ORF- Radio Symphony Orchestra in Vienna.
As a soloist, she has participated in many festivals and performed in numerous countries, including the World Harp Congress in Switzerland, Allegro Vivo in Austria, Mitte Europa in Germany, Salesian Days of Harp in Poland, Days of Harp in Slovakia, harp events in Slovenia, Turkey, Italy and France. During the Brno Philharmonic’s tour of South Korea in 2024, she appeared as a soloist in Isang Yun’s Fanfare and Memorial under the baton of Dennis Russell Davies.
She has appeared as a soloist with the Prague Philharmonia, Brno Philharmonic, Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, the Leoš Janáček Chamber Orchestra, the String Orchestra of the Prague Conservatory, Collegium 21, Ostravská banda and Europera. In November 2023, she led masterclasses at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana. During the courses, she gave a recital featuring compositions by Czech composers from her debut album In The Strings. In March 2024, she gave masterclasses and a recital at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, and in 2025 she was a special guest at the Days of Harp in Bratislava.
She is the founder of the Come & Play the Harp event in Brno and is regularly invited to serve on juries at international competitions.

Harfenistka Ivana Švestková Dohnalová totiž předvedla svůj skvělý um ve všech skladbách kromě zmíněného Dua. Její zásluhou tak představení získalo specifický zvukový ráz.

Her performance … are diabolically athletic and in your face. It brings us back to the beginning of the rhythmic quality in the Czech language leading to dance which inevitably leads to joy.
MESTO HUDBY
Švestková vyšla vstříc lehce „snovému“ vyznění a v průběhu skladby rozvolňovala a zrychlovala tempo, stejně jako měnila naléhavost výrazu. Povedený byl také kontrast, se kterým přistoupila k mollové části Preludia.
OPERA+
Silný hudební prožitek provázel všemi třemi částmi skladby, v níž zvukově dominovala harfenistka Ivana Dohnalová.
